Roseanne has also directed several dramatic short films which have taken her to A-list international film festivals. Her most recent short, Take 3 has garnered a number of prestigious awards, including a Special Mention at the 2008 Berlinale, and the Audience Award for Best Foreign Short at the 2008 Valladolid International Film Festival.
Roseanne was part of the writing/directing team on TV3’s comedy sketch show, A Thousand Apologies, and works professionally as an editor. Her work forms an eclectic mix of love stories, drama, noir and kung fu action- all spiced with a healthy sprinkling of absurdist humour.
Roseanne Liang is a first generation New Zealand Chinese writer and director. In 2001 she was awarded TV2’s Young Filmmaker Award and in 2005 she was SPADA’s New Filmmaker of the Year. Most recently in 2008, WIFT New Zealand honoured her with their ‘Woman to Watch’ Award.
Graduating from Auckland University with a Masters in Screen Writing and Directing, Roseanne completed a feature-length autobiographical documentary in 2005, Banana in a Nutshell. The film was one of the most notable local successes of the New Zealand International Film Festival, and was awarded Best Documentary at the New Zealand International Documentary Festival. Roseanne was also awarded Best Director of Documentary at the Asian Festival of 1st Films in Singapore and subsequently received the New Zealand Chinese Association’s Significant Achievement Award. She is currently in production on her first feature film, “Girl meets Boy” produced by South Pacific Pictures.
